Physical and Chemical Properties Lab

Objective: To describe the physical and chemical properties of matter based on the changes they undergo.


Observation: A white powder is found in an unlabeled jar in the cupboard. You have narrowed the field down to three possibilities.


Question: Which chemical is the unknown substance?


Hypothesis: Write three hypotheses.


Methods: Use the dropper plate to mix vinegar, water, iodine, phe and three known powders: salt, baking soda, and cornstarch. Record your exact methods.


Results: What are the Physical and Chemical Properties of each powder before and after each test? Create a table that describes your results.


Conclusion: Write up your conclusions to present to the class why you think the substance is what you say it is.
